Biography
Professor Adedayo O. Ademiluyi is a biochemist at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Nigeria, whose research focuses on functional foods, nutraceuticals, phytomedicine and food biochemistry. His work examines bioactive compounds from tropical foods and medicinal plants and their potential roles in modulating biochemical processes associated with chronic and degenerative conditions.
His research has addressed the antioxidant and enzyme-modulating properties of plant foods and natural products in relation to conditions including diabetes, hypertension, neurological dysfunction and other metabolic disorders. He is affiliated with the Functional Foods, Nutraceuticals and Phytomedicine research programme in FUTA's Department of Biochemistry and has published extensively on the biochemical and toxicological effects of foods, phytochemicals and natural compounds.
Professor Ademiluyi was elected a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS) in 2025 in the Biosciences discipline. Earlier in his career, he received the 2012 AU–TWAS Young Scientist National Award in Earth and Life Sciences for Nigeria, an award jointly associated with the African Union, TWAS, the Nigerian science authorities and the Nigerian Academy of Science.
His expertise in functional foods, nutraceuticals, natural products and biomedical biochemistry is particularly relevant to Liberia's priorities in food and nutrition research, laboratory capacity, biodiversity-based health research and the development of young scientists.
