Biography
Dr. Audrey Masizana is a Research and Teaching Scholar and former Head of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Botswana. Her academic and research work spans health informatics, data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, open data and open science, with particular emphasis on the application of data and digital technologies to health systems and evidence-informed decision-making.
She has led and contributed to interdisciplinary digital-health and data initiatives in Botswana, including research on eHealth architecture, health-information systems, machine-learning applications and data interoperability. She has also played an active role in advancing open science and open-data policy and has contributed to national and regional initiatives supporting data-driven research and digital transformation.
Dr. Masizana has served on the CODATA Executive Committee since 2021 and was re-elected for the 2025–2027 term. She is a Fellow of the Botswana Academy of Sciences (FBAS) and an International Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania Center for Global Health. She holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Manchester.
Her expertise in data science, digital health, artificial intelligence and open science is particularly relevant to Liberia's priorities in digital capacity development, health-information systems, scientific data infrastructure and the training of young researchers.
