Biography
Ehab Abdel-Rahman is Provost of the American University in Cairo (AUC), Egypt, and Professor of Physics. A prolific researcher and physicist, he has built extensive expertise in thermoacoustics, solar energy, materials and photonics over a research career of more than seventeen years.
Professor Abdel-Rahman has published more than eighty technical papers and reports and holds five patents. Earlier in his career he held a research appointment at the University of Utah in the United States. His distinctive achievements include the development of a high-efficiency, innovative and simple power block for concentrated solar power, and a self-tuned, photonic-based energy-saving glass window, technologies aimed at practical energy efficiency in hot climates. He accepted the distinction of Fellow of the Liberia Academy of Sciences in August 2026, writing that he looks forward to contributing to the advancement of science in Liberia and across Africa, and warmly extending an invitation to Liberia's Ambassador to visit AUC.
His expertise is particularly relevant to Liberia's priorities in expanding access to affordable renewable energy, deploying solar power in off-grid communities and building technology-transfer links between universities in Egypt, Liberia and the wider region.
