Biography
Romain Glele Kakaï is a Full Professor of Biostatistics and Forest Estimations in the Faculty of Agronomic Sciences at the Université d'Abomey-Calavi, Benin. He is the head of the Laboratoire de Biomathématiques et d'Estimations Forestières (LABEF), the coordinator of the Master's and PhD programme in Biostatistics and Biometry, and he is a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences (FAAS).
Professor Glele Kakaï's work applies mathematical and statistical methods to life sciences including forest resource estimation, ecological modelling, quantitative analysis of vegetation and land-use dynamics in West Africa and infectious disease modelling. His publications address, among other topics, the dynamics of tropical forest stands, the modelling of tree growth and the statistical treatment of ecological surveys.
Through LABEF's postgraduate programmes he has trained cohorts of African researchers in biometrics, strengthening the quantitative foundations of agricultural, forestry and environmental science across the region. He accepted the distinction of Fellow of the Liberia Academy of Sciences in August 2026. His expertise is particularly relevant to Liberia's priorities in forest resource assessment, evidence-based land management and the quantitative training of the agricultural and environmental scientists the country needs.
