Biography
Samuel T. Kortue is Associate Professor of History and Chairman of the Department of History at the University of Liberia, the country's flagship public university. He holds a PhD in History. The department he leads, established in 1862 at about the same time as Liberia College itself, is one of the oldest degree-granting departments in the institution and has long served as a gateway to the study of international relations, law, human-rights advocacy and education in Liberia.
As chairman, Dr Kortue is responsible for teaching, supervision and curriculum development in Liberian and African history, training students who go on to serve in education, public service and the professions, and helping to sustain rigorous historical scholarship in a post-conflict setting. He accepted the distinction of Fellow of the Liberia Academy of Sciences in July 2026, responding with the Academy's standard acceptance and publication-authorisation statement, and LAS has since confirmed his Fellowship by official welcome letter.
As a Liberian historian, his work is directly relevant to Liberia's priorities in preserving national memory, strengthening historical education and supporting an evidence-based understanding of the country's past as a foundation for reconciliation and development.
