WACCI and the University of Ghana Recognise Prof. Eric Yirenkyi Danquah's LAS Fellowship
WACCI and the University of Ghana recognised Prof. Eric Yirenkyi Danquah’s election as a LAS Fellow on 30 July 2026. A leading plant geneticist and WACCI Founding Director, his Fellowship opens opportunities for crop research and scientific cooperation with Liberia.
The West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) and the University of Ghana's College of Basic and Applied Sciences have recognised Prof. Eric Yirenkyi Danquah's election as a Fellow of the Liberia Academy of Sciences (LAS). WACCI announced the distinction on 30 July 2026, highlighting a career devoted to plant genetics, crop improvement and scientific capacity-building in Africa.
Prof. Danquah is Professor of Plant Genetics and the Founding Director of WACCI at the University of Ghana. Through research, graduate education and institution-building, his work has helped advance the training of plant breeders and the development of improved crops for African farming systems.
His Fellowship is especially relevant to Liberia, where stronger crop research, resilient seed systems and advanced training can support food security and agricultural transformation. It also creates a basis for future dialogue among LAS, Liberian institutions, WACCI and the wider plant-science community.
Recognition by Prof. Danquah's home institutions adds important external validation to the distinction and gives LAS an opportunity to share his work with Liberian researchers, students and agricultural stakeholders.LAS congratulates Prof. Danquah and welcomes the prospect of voluntary academic exchange, mentorship and collaboration in areas of shared interest.
