The Liberia Academy of Sciences (LAS) supported the 2026 International Conference on the Industry–Academia–Research Collaboration and Application of Advanced Functional Materials, held from 10 to 12 September 2026 at Wuhan Institute of Technology (WIT) in Wuhan, China.

The conference brought together scholars, researchers and industry representatives from China and several other countries to exchange perspectives on advanced functional materials, scientific innovation, technology transfer and industry–academia–research collaboration. LAS participated as an international supporting organization, contributing to the international dimension of the conference and the development of academic connections between Africa, China and the wider scientific community.

Sando Fahnbulleh, Fellow of the Liberia Academy of Sciences and researcher at the University of Liberia, contributed to the academic programme with a presentation entitled:

"Applied Chemistry and Sustainable Innovation in Liberia: Opportunities for China–Africa Industry–Academia–Research Collaboration."

His presentation highlighted the importance of applied chemistry, research capacity development and international cooperation in supporting locally relevant innovation and sustainable development in Liberia and across Africa.

The conference also provided opportunities for dialogue between universities, research institutions and industry, including discussions on scientific collaboration, technology transfer and the practical application of research outcomes.LAS welcomes opportunities to connect Liberian scientists with international academic and innovation networks and will continue to support scientific exchange, research cooperation and capacity development between Liberia, China and partners around the world.
